History says, Don't hope / on this side of the grave. / But then, once in a lifetime / the longed for tidal wave of justice can rise up, / and hope and history rhyme. / So hope for a great sea-change / on the far side of revenge. / Believe that a further shore / is reachable from here. / Believe in miracles / and cures and healing wells ... Test for Echo
Well, if the heather blazing "brought the neighbors from far and near," then I wonder what an ENIR 360 blog will do? Hopefully it will offer a venue for some conversational overflow, both formal and informal, as we move deeper into the semester. Since that weekly Wednesday to Monday hiatus can sometimes be a long one, we may appreciate having this other place to meet. In any event, here it is. Since the road will often be a very serious one, and sometimes a downright grim one (especially when we get to the Troubles and Northern Ireland), it seems somehow appropriate to use Heaney's lines for the blog's title -- to invoke, that is, further shores, cures, and healing wells.
